Virginia Ray uses healing elements of nature along with meditative influences to create transformative artwork. Her current wall sculptures and prayer flags are made of handmade and dyed papers, natural found objects, and miscellaneous prayer charms. Known for the effectiveness of her artwork in healing institutions and art spaces around the San Francisco/Bay Area, viewers are able to experience the tangible, calming atmosphere her unique style offers.
"My current theme is INSPIRATION. Igniting the spark of life in viewers is my aim. I am naturally bald. This unusual position in life has given me a broadened sense of awareness, initiating many themes in my work, including concepts of sky, belief, unity, and order. I include viewer participation whenever possible, to emphasize our interconnection. Such as inviting people to write about their favorite tree, or make a tracing of their hand. These contributions are made into new pieces. I find that making art out of ordinary life is a potent format." - V. Ray
Ray has developed her own style of hand dyed paper prayer flags. These flags are based on ancient traditions which place intentions into special cloth, when hung, the wind, sunlight, and other elements catch the prayers and sends their messages into the universe to be heard.
Ray specializes in creating sacred spaces in homes and offices, as well as custom artwork and personalized flags. Sets of flags for inspiration and peace are also available, $25 and up.
